Interested in giving kayaking a go?
We run free come and try sessions where we give you a taste of what it is like to paddle a racing kayak, with basic tuition and helpers on hand to guide you through the process of getting in a boat for the first time.
After this, you can sign up to take part in either one of our beginner courses. Paddle Start is a short two hour course designed to teach you the very basics of kayaking and get you out in a boat, even if it is your first time on the water! Paddle Discover aims to teach you the same fundamentals, but also expand upon them and develop them throughout a day long course where you will get to explore more of the canal , with adept tuition provided by knowledgeable and qualified instructors.

What should I wear?
Thin gymwear type layers are best or a material that doesn’t hold the water if you fall in. If it’s a cold day, please ensure you wear multiple layers and/or a cagoule. If it’s a hot day, a hat and sunscreen are advisable. You’ll need a pair of securely fitting shoes you’re happy to paddle in too; either paddle shoes or old trainers where the sole isn’t too thick are best. Crocs and flip flops are not suitable.
Please bring a towel and some dry clothes to get changed into at the end. For the Paddle Discover course, some people also bring a spare set of paddling clothes in case they fall in and wish to change into dry clothes at lunch. If it’s a hot day, please bring sunscreen to top up if you fall in and a water bottle which can be put into the boat.
Where do I need to go?
Leighton Buzzard Canoe Club is located on the grounds of Cedars Upper School. To access the club you should park in the carpark next to what was Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre and go through the gate at the rear of the carpark behind the swimming pool building.
